Child seats are available in our SUVs and Ford Transit passenger van and should be requested when making your transportation reservation. Our Child Car Seat Options
1776 Black Car Service currently maintains three Graco convertible child car seats and two booster seats for our passengers. Our inventory includes two Graco Extend2Fit convertible seats, one Graco TriRide convertible seat, one high-back booster, and one low-back booster. Because every child is different, parents should provide the age, approximate height, and weight of each child when requesting transportation. This information helps us discuss which of our available child-restraint options may be appropriate. Child seats are subject to availability, particularly when multiple seats are needed for the same reservation. We strongly recommend requesting them when you first arrange your transportation rather than waiting until the day of travel.
Charlotte Douglas Airport Transportation With a Car Seat
One of the most common reasons families request our child seats is airport transportation to or from Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Flying with a large convertible car seat can be cumbersome. Depending on your trip, you may only need the seat for transportation between CLT and your hotel, residence, or other Charlotte-area destination. Carrying your own seat through multiple airports simply for those transfers may not be convenient.
With 1776 Black Car Service, the child-seat requirement can be included with your airport transportation reservation. When making the reservation, tell us how many adults and children are traveling, the ages, approximate heights and weights of the children, your flight information, anticipated luggage, and destination. We can then determine vehicle and child-seat availability before your trip. For arriving passengers, our chauffeurs monitor the incoming flight information provided with the reservation. Families can choose between curbside airport pickup and an inside Meet & Greet at Baggage Claim.
How to Reserve a Child Car Seat
Child seats should always be requested in advance and are subject to availability.
When requesting a quote or making a reservation, please provide:
Number of adults and children traveling
Age of each child
Approximate height and weight of each child
Number of child seats or boosters requested
Pickup and destination
Flight information when traveling through CLT
Approximate amount of luggage
Any stroller or other unusually large items
We will confirm the availability of both the appropriate vehicle and requested child seating. Please remember that receiving a quote does not reserve a child seat or vehicle. Transportation is considered booked only after the reservation process has been completed and confirmed by 1776 Black Car Service.
CLT Curbside Pickup for Families
Curbside pickup is available for families who are comfortable navigating Charlotte Douglas and prefer to meet their chauffeur outside the terminal. After your flight arrives, proceed through the terminal to the lower-level Baggage Claim area, retrieve your checked luggage, and communicate with your chauffeur when your family is ready for pickup. Your chauffeur will coordinate the vehicle’s arrival at the appropriate passenger pickup area. Curbside service can work especially well for frequent travelers, parents traveling with older children, and families who can comfortably manage their luggage and belongings without additional assistance inside the terminal. Families with several small children, substantial luggage, or strollers may prefer our inside Meet & Greet option.
CLT Inside Meet & Greet for Families
For parents who would like additional assistance after arriving in Charlotte, 1776 Black Car Service offers an inside airport Meet & Greet service. Instead of remaining outside in the vehicle, your chauffeur parks in the airport parking deck and enters the terminal. At CLT, our chauffeur parks in the Hourly Parking Deck and uses the Level 5 skybridge to enter the terminal. From there, the chauffeur takes the elevator down to the lower Arrivals/Baggage Claim level and waits for the arriving passenger. Your chauffeur will be holding a sign displaying the customer’s last name, making it easier to identify the person who is there to meet your family.
Once you arrive at Baggage Claim, your chauffeur can assist with retrieving luggage from the carousel and organizing your belongings for the walk back to the vehicle. We then accompany you back through the terminal, up to the skybridge and across to the parking deck where the vehicle is waiting. For a family arriving in an unfamiliar airport with small children, luggage and a stroller, having someone waiting inside can make the arrival considerably easier.
Traveling Alone With Small Children
Inside Meet & Greet can be particularly useful for a mother or father traveling alone with babies or young children. A parent may need to watch a toddler, keep track of a stroller and carry-on bags, and retrieve multiple suitcases from the baggage carousel simultaneously. Having a chauffeur meet the family inside allows us to assist with the luggage while the parent concentrates on the children.
For female passengers traveling alone with children, we can also provide identifying information about the assigned vehicle, including a photograph of the vehicle and its license plate number, upon request. With an inside Meet & Greet, the passenger also meets the chauffeur before reaching the vehicle. The chauffeur who greets you by name in Baggage Claim and assists with your luggage is the same person who accompanies your family back to the waiting vehicle. It’s a simple process designed to remove some of the uncertainty from arriving at a busy airport with children.
Traveling With Two or Three Children
Families with multiple young children face an even bigger transportation challenge. You may be traveling with an infant who requires a convertible child seat, a toddler who needs another seat, and an older child who uses a booster. Bringing all of those seats through an airport can quickly become impractical.
Because 1776 maintains three convertible child seats plus two different booster seats, we may be able to accommodate families traveling with multiple children in the same vehicle. The exact configuration depends upon the children’s needs, vehicle selected, passenger count, luggage requirements, and availability of our child seats. This is also one reason we ask families to contact us before booking. A family of five with three child seats and substantial luggage has very different vehicle requirements from two adults traveling with one toddler. Tell us about your family and your luggage, and we can determine which vehicle configuration is appropriate before confirming the reservation.
Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Child Car Seats
1776 Black Car Service maintains two Graco Extend2Fit convertible child car seats. The Extend2Fit is designed for both rear-facing and forward-facing configurations within the manufacturer’s specified height and weight requirements. It includes an adjustable harness and headrest system and is designed to accommodate children through multiple stages of growth. Rather than carrying your own large convertible seat through the airport, families can request one of our available Extend2Fit seats when arranging transportation. Availability is not guaranteed without an advance reservation.
Graco TriRide Convertible Child Car Seat
Our fleet also includes one Graco TriRide convertible child car seat. The TriRide provides another child-restraint option for families traveling with babies and young children and can be configured according to the manufacturer’s applicable requirements. When requesting either a TriRide or another convertible seat, please provide your child’s age, approximate height, and weight so the request can be reviewed before your transportation is confirmed.
High-Back & Low-Back Booster Seats
Not every child needs a full convertible car seat. For older children who meet the appropriate requirements for booster use, 1776 Black Car Service maintains one high-back booster and one low-back booster seat. Booster seats should also be requested when making the reservation. Don’t assume one will automatically be carried in the assigned vehicle. If you are uncertain which of our available options may be appropriate, provide your child’s information when requesting your quote so the seating requirement can be discussed in advance.
SUV & Ford Transit Transportation With Child Seats
Our child car seats are available in our SUVs and Ford Transit passenger van. They are not available in our sedans. Our full-size SUVs are well suited to airport transportation for families because they provide passenger seating along with space for luggage, strollers, and other travel necessities.
For larger families and groups, our Ford Transit 350 Executive Passenger Van provides significantly greater passenger and luggage capacity. This can be especially useful when several adults and children are traveling together or when multiple child seats are required. Vehicle selection isn’t based solely on the number of passengers. Luggage matters too. A family traveling with several checked suitcases, carry-ons, a stroller and multiple child seats may require a larger vehicle than the passenger count alone would suggest. Providing accurate information when requesting transportation helps us assign the appropriate vehicle.
